Pupils and staff from Castlebay Community School took some time away from their busy Christmas schedule to recognise the impact made by young volunteers on Barra. Pupils have been taking part in the Scottish government’s Saltire Awards by recording all the volunteering hours they have completed for various groups.

Pupils have been helping many local organisations as well as volunteering for Barra Youth Cafe, with Primary Youth Club and Primary Football. They have been taking part in Charity Fundraising for local organisations by performing at ceilidhs, as well as taking part in national events like the Sports Relief Mile.

Saltire Awards recognise young volunteers as they reach the milestones of 10, 25, 50, 100, 200 and 500 hours volunteering. On the 18th of December, 54 pupils from S2 to S6 received certificates recognising their achievements. These certificates represent an accumulative volunteering effort of over 4,000 hours. Pupils in S1 have signed up for the awards and are looking forward to taking part. Very well done to everyone!
