The Barra Co-op Local Forum is one of only five pilot schemes established in Scotland to bring together local Co-operative members, customers and colleagues to make good things happen in their local area.

One of the Forums recent events was a community lunch prepared entirely from ingredients that would otherwise have been thrown away by the local co-op store in Barra. Around 40 people enjoyed a free community meal, which was skilfully prepared by a team of volunteers overseen by local chef Ian Johnstone. Young volunteers from Croitear Og served the happy diners.

For this event the Barra Forum, led by local member MaryAnn Ferguson chose to highlight the issue of food waste; to raise awareness about waste generally and particularly on the island. Look out for other events which will be advertised on the group’s facebook page.

If you also like to make good things happen in your local community get together with other Co-op members in your Co-operative Local Forum.
