What better way to send a Saturday morning than being in the great outdoors? These 4 young lads from Harris gave up a couple of hours on 31st October to paint a bench at the start of the Marruig>Urgha path in North Harris, and a brilliant job they made of it too.

Materials including brushes, paint, and gloves were provided by the WISE volunteer project which aims to encourage volunteering on local paths and to improve access to the local environment.

Kate Langley, the Volunteer Centre Development Worker for Harris, said afterwards 'I was really impressed with these boys and how they worked as a team to get the bench painted - with the ever-present threat of rain they had to work quickly and efficiently without getting completely covered in paint!' One of the parents sent Kate a message to say 'thanks for taking the boys, they had a great time!'

WISE is supported by Scottish Natural Heritage and the Big Fund through the Young Start programme and it is managed by the Volunteer Centre Western Isles, who are always there to support volunteer involving organisations and to help people find suitable volunteering.
