The Retirement Centre in stornoway had a major water leak just before Christmas which involved tearing up the floor from one end of the building to the other!
The committee decided that this was an ideal opportunity to sort out much of the rubbish which had accumulated, put in a new (efficient) heating system, paint, re-carpet and put up new curtains.
The 2 or 3 rooms at the end of the building near the road are still in the process of being upgraded. However they haven't been used for years which seems a terrible waste of resources when community groups and voluntary organisations are in need of cheap accommodation.
The centre is currently used by various people from a "one off" birthday party for a 7 year old, to the Men's Cancer Group who meet there every Friday afternoon, an art group which meets on Mondays, and, of course lunches for the old folk every Thursday.
